MAYFLOWER GULCH – Summit County
Distance: 1.8 miles
Rated: Easy to slightly moderate
Truly one of our favorite hikes, even though we hike anything, we’ve been hooked on this trail since the first visit. In a just over a mile you will be above timberline. After hiking up an old ore road lined with dense spruce forest, a valley opens up before you and you’ve reached the real treasure, remnants of the historic “Boston Mine Camp” nestled beneath Mt. Fletcher and the Ten Mile Range. The surroundings are breathtaking.
Just getting started hiking? This trail will make you long for more! Simply one of the best first hikes ever to experience Colorado. Perfect for families and a fun way to try snowshoeing too… just say’n

INTER-LAKEN TRAIL – Twin Lakes
Distance: 4.5 miles out & back
Rated: Easy
This was an accidental find one day on a road trip to Independence Pass. Inter-Laken trail gently wanders along the shores of Twin Lakes with glimpses of Mt. Elbert peeking through a forest of tall aspens trees. Sound beautiful? It’s stunning. But that’s not all, after hiking 2.4 miles you come upon the preserved 1879 Inter-Laken Resort. Open for you to explore on your own. Such detail in these magnificent buildings. You’ll be here awhile.
Reachable only on foot, whether hiking or snowshoeing, this trail might just bring you back to the mountains for more hiking adventures.(?)

THE CRAGS – Backside of Pikes Peak
Distance: 4.9 miles out
Rated: Easy to moderate
A hike unlike most hikes you will find in the Colorado mountains. The Crags Trail is a bit more of a challenge, going from moderate to quite easy, then climbing moderately for a very short hike up to the end. It’s worth the extra effort, because upon reaching the top you’ll find “the Crags”, the most unusual rock formations with amazing panoramic views, and bristlecone pines scattered about.
If you’re new to hiking and struggled on the way up, once here it will be easy to forget the effort you made to get here. Located on the backside of Pikes Peak, it’s breathtaking.
