It’s late fall, and there’s not a sole in sight as we begin our hike in beautiful Dolores, CO. Hiking up through rock formations to a gently rolling path, the lake views begin quickly.
It has a \desert feel, with cacti interspersed through the shrubbery and trees. Occasionally, we head inland, heading down, then up to find the cliffside again and the incredible views. Birdsong fills the air during our entire hike.
One vast area was something different for us: a field of tall yellow grass that seemed to go on forever with one tree smack in the middle. Then back to lake views. That was fun!
Two things that caught our attention on this trail were the skeleton remains of animals scattered about and one huge spider. And I mean big, hairy, gray and black. I should have gotten a photo, but we just moved on…
Fun and family-friendly, the area boasts loads of recreational options— wakeboarding, paddle boarding, fishing, boating, camping, hiking, and birding, to name a few.
