We attended the “13 Annual Poker Glide Family Ski & Snowshoe”, presented by the Mosquito Range Heritage Initiative (MRHI).

Always unique and fun when attending any of Fairplay CO’s, small-town events, they are exceptional.

If looking just to explore in the Beaver Creek Trail area, you can come anytime and explore old mines, go mountain biking, hike numerous hiking trails, find a dispersed campsite, wildlife, and no crowds.

Not often can I get my grown children to wander off into the woods with me so I felt the need to share for others wanting a family-friendly event.

This turned out to be one of our favorite family adventures.

The Ski & Snowshoe offered a 3.5 mile or a 1.5-mile trek through the woods.

Shucks, we choose the 1.5 miles. Turned out perfect as the winds were coming up and as usual one of us had on only a t-shirt. Have you heard that before,“I won’t get cold!”

Snowshoeing past a teepee situated in a dreamy campsite location with sweeping views of snowcapped peaks.

Everyone seems to be ahead of us! Most were on x country skies and flew past us towards the end of the trail.

I’m pretty sure we are super late now, we’ve found an old cabin!

Upon returning the festivities were very casual, with free snacks, drinks, and games. Winning several raffles from local businesses was an added treat, we came home with goodies, smiles, and red cheeks.

This post is short and sweet but wanted to get the word out there in case you are looking for an annual outdoor family adventure.

Guaranteed fun & it’s free!

Lots to explore in the Beaver Creek drainage area, so come anytime and explore old mines, go mountain biking, hike numerous hiking trails, find a dispersed campsite, wildlife, and no crowds.
