One of our favorite “off the beaten path” trails we’ve happened upon. Three Lakes Trail, located on beautiful Kebler Pass near Crested Butte.
Three Lakes Trail is a 4.7-mile loop on a moderately easy hike of alpine wonder.

So close to timberline, yet perfect for seasoned or newbie hikers. Sporadic views of Ruby Range & Beckwith Mountain were stunning, yet you’ll find that Dollar & Lost Lake are the highlights!
ASPENS GALORE
Immediately we were emerging into yet again another magical Colorado setting. Surrounded by tall Aspens and pines with breaks of sunshine filtering through the trees and peeks of Lost Lake Slough to our left, it was exciting to anticipate the next lake.
Please check out “What’s in Your Day Pack” for a list of recommended items anytime hiking. We never leave home without our backpacks! You never know when a trail will be along…
Hiking upward on a gradual incline through a spruce-fir-lined path, an emerald green lake appeared with sweeping dramatic mountain views.
It’s one of those “wow” moments reaching Lost Lake.
Somewhere between Lost Lake and Dollar Lake (I can’t remember exactly where) you’ll hear a waterfall off the trail, follow the sound, hike about 500 yards and you’ll be transfixed.
Tucked in the canyon walls is a thundering waterfall. Don’t miss it, it’s a beauty and unexpected fun.
DOLLAR LAKE
A short side trail off of the Three Lakes Trail will take you to Dollar Lake. Something about Dollar Lake will leave you feeling like you’ve discovered a hidden treasure. We didn’t want to leave.
Grabbed our attention for about an hour just hanging out & having lunch. Was serene, peaceful.
Hiking back you’ll encounter a series of switchbacks through fields of Aspen trees. Views of the first lake before reaching the end of our loop are just an added treat.
If you want a hike to share with family and friends that brag about Colorado, Three Lakes Trail would do it!
We loved this trail and all the surprises that seemed to be on every bend.
