Windy Peak via Burro Trail Loop, located in Golden Gate Canyon State Park, is more than expected. Ever-changing terrain keeps you anticipating the next bend on the trail. A bubbling creek, craggy rocks, vast open meadows, forests, and stunning Continental Divide peak views on Windy Peak.
BURRO TRAIL LOOP
Golden Gate Canyon State Park has surprised me again! This hike was challenging, and the rewards at Windy Peak were fantastic. An excellent springtime trail while waiting for snowmelt in the higher mountains.
ROCKS, CRAGGY & RUGGED
The terrain and trail are getting fun, rugged, rocky, and lined with intense rock formations towering alongside us.
Rounding the rocks, views of Denver become a vivid mirage reaching far across the eastern plains. Here things change as we head into a forest of lodgepole pines.
Rocky areas, forest areas, areas flat, areas steep, and somewhere is the turn to Windy Peak. Snippets of Peak views appeared. We felt like we were almost there, and the trail continued …

Reaching Windy Peak is a breathtaking moment. The expansive Continental Divide views are spellbinding! Numerous areas to plant yourself and take it all in.
